Brief introduction to the author

Yuan Shouding, courtesy name Shulun, nicknamed Yizhai, and late Yushanweng, was born in Fengcheng County (now Fengcheng City) in the Qing Dynasty. He lost his father at the age of three and his family was poor. In the eighth year of Yongzheng (1730), he was a Jinshi. He once participated in the compilation of “Tongzhi” in Hunan, and then served as the county magistrate of Hunan Huitong. At the age of thirty-seven, she was the end-of-life caregiver, resigned and returned home. At the end of her twelfth year as a maid, Qianlong returned to the north in the 21st year (1756) to serve as an official. Before leaving, she wrote an article and swore: “The food and clothing of the family will be given to the official. If anyone returns with a penny, he will be punished by heaven.” In the twenty-fourth year of Qianlong (1759), he died of illness and returned home. For more than 20 years in the village, he built bridges and roads, gave coffins, and provided relief in times of famine. He is the author of “Geography Eating Sugarcane Records”, “Reading Yibao Peeping”, “Tu Minlu”, “Zhan Bi Cong Tan”, “Yu Shang Shi Shuo” and so on.
