Preface

The Tao is to be carried forward by the sages, not by ordinary people. It became prosperous because of Confucius; Buddhism flourished because of Qu Yun (Sakyamuni). Therefore, Xiangdao (referring to the way of viewing appearances) also needs to borrow people to carry forward in the world. Few of the ancients knew the way of physiognomy in detail, so Confucius saw that Ziyu was damaged; Tai Shigong (Sima Qian) misjudged Zhang Liang, the founding hero of the Han Dynasty. Xunzi’s theory of physiognomy and Nanhua’s (Zhuangzi’s) knowledge of physiognomy also have erroneous theories because of ignorance of the truth. Foolish people don’t know how to make progress, and when they are young, they don’t study. Originally short and ignorant, coupled with insufficient talent, I couldn’t even understand a word, but I once stayed at the residence of the author Mr. Haichang for one or two days, and I was able to comprehend it quite clearly. Have experience. Afterwards, he put his heart on physiognomy, and after many years, he has learned a lot about the profound principles of physiognomy. Stupid and illiterate, although there are many books on physiognomy in the world, they cannot read them, and they don’t know how to ask a teacher, but only know how to study them. Although I think I have understood something, I still need to apply it in the field to verify it, so I traveled through the provinces alone to give people a glimpse. But because of her inherently ugly appearance, no one wants to look at her when she travels around. But when Xiang reluctantly observed Xiang, he was rejected by others. Under such circumstances, he gradually fell into despair, so he paid one night and one meal to be a good person. After ten years, I have read a lot of physiognomy, so I have unique insights into physiognomy, and have discovered many inventions that have never been described by physiognomists throughout the ages, and I am quite proud. In short, the world has good and bad changes, the sky has the sun, the moon and the stars, the earth has the prosperity and decline of mountains, rivers and vegetation, and people can also be regarded as a small world, good and bad reactions must appear in the phase, this is the principle of nature. As a monarch, virtue and immorality are the same as the changes of heaven and earth. There are causes and effects of changing from bad to good, and also from good to bad. Because of the number of people who have seen each other, the fool understands the matter of blood and fleeting years. The former book (the first edition of this book) has not yet been written, but this book is now published, for people with the same interests. I am ignorant and incompetent, and I am clumsy in writing, which is already known to everyone, and it is shameful to say it again. Readers all know that I am ignorant and ignorant, have limited knowledge, and do not dislike it. They know that I know a thing or two about relatives, and that what I say is for others to promote. I am ashamed of receiving the teaching, and I will not force you to read this book unreasonably.
